Want to keep a record of those important documents and receipts? For $3.99
you can purchase
JotNot
an application that takes your iPhone photos of documents and converts the image
to make them much easier to read. In thirty seconds JotNot will correct for any
issues with lighting and color, perspective (see photo above).

All
documents are kept private because scanning is done entirely on the iPhone,
meaning you don’t have to upload private notes to a third party website. The
only iteration I’d like to see on this application is a way to convert the
images into searchable digital documents. Down the road JotNot plans add a
feature that converts photos into digital text documents, thus making it easier
to organize and search those pesky loose papers.

• Copy & Paste photos

• New Spotlight: iPhone OS 3.0 will allow you to search across all the information contained in your device.

• 3G Tethering: You can use your iPhone as a modem by connecting it to a laptop for internet access. Carriers will probably charge more for this feature.

• Search in Mail, Calendar, and iPod

• Landscape keyboard: This feature will be added to applications like Mail, SMS, and Notes.

• Improved stocks application: Allows you to read related news when looking up stocks. I love this new feature.

• Shake to shuffle music: All you need to do is shake phone while in iPod application and it goes into ‘shuffle mode’.

• Anti-phishing: Safari now warns you against sites trying to scam you.

• Voice memo application: Allows you to record voice or any other sound, another step towards killing privacy.

• Push notification finally coming: iPhone OS 3.0 applications will finally be able to receive messages automatically the way Blackberry has always done.

iPhone vs enV

the following is a conversation a friend of mine and i were having about his new iphone.

he was so blown away by figuring out that if you hold the cursor down while using the typepad, you can move it anywhere in the text (instead of having to go back and erase everything). he continued to tell me about the verizon phone his friend had (i'm the obama/pink bubble):

the iPhone and all the hoopla

earlier this week at the macworld convention, steve jobs unveiled the latest little gadget that will make you feel like a total loser if you don't own it: the iPhone.

it's been nearly a week now, and i have to say that now that i've had some time to read about it, i'm not convinced it's the awesomest thing in the world. i mean, i will "ooh" and "ahh" the first time i sit next to someone on the subway and they reveal their cool little mp3 player/video player/phone/wifi computer. but a friend brought up a good point. her and boyf had an IM conversation that went something like this:

[13:35] friend's boyf i'm reading all this crap about the iphone
[13:35] friend's boyf: it doesn't have a replaceable battery
[13:35] friend's boyf: great
[13:35] friend's boyf: so after a year it's unusable
[13:35] friend's boyf: you can watch 2 hours of video on it
[13:35] friend's boyf: so then your phone is dead after that
[13:36] friend's boyf: with the data plan and everything
[13:36] friend: that's dumb
[13:36] friend's boyf: it would cost $3000 over two years
[13:36] friend: like the ipod battery doesn't suck enough
[13:36] friend's boyf: and like geoff was saying
[13:36] friend's boyf: how quick is that huge screen going to get screwed up

also, even though the ny times gadget guy was blown away at first, even he said "bottom line: heavy blackberry addicts may not want to jump ship just yet."

and if that weren't enough, stephen colbert gave it the wag of his finger:
my favorite quote was when he said "apple's new iPhone gives nerds their hardest collective wood since princess leia wore a bikini."

all in all, i think that apple will come out with a better and more perfected version of the iPhone about 6-8 months after the 1st generation model comes out. so for now (and until my contract with sprint expires), i'll keep my samsung phone.
