i know i'm a native texan, but the fact that i'm leaving nyc makes me want to buy this necklace.
i'm not sure i get the following equation:
1) normally i don't get excited over fleet week. all the military men that come in are youngins. but man, i'm starving for a summer romance
so as you may have read, i spotted a few "celebs" this week (does brett ratner count as a celeb? he makes millions, so i'm gonna say yes). anywho, i went to see a former co-worker's comedy show tonight at ochi's and guess who walked in to do a surprise set? none other than comedian jim gaffigan.
yesterday: jude law. today: brett ratner
so earlier today i decided to trek over to the movie theater in union square to take in a late afternoon showing of wolverine. the movie itself was good. nothing fantastic, but entertaining nonetheless. silver linings? hugh jackman and taylor kitsch.
i think i'd be too poor to go to nyu nowadays
apparently it costs $54,000 a year to go to NYU now, which is beyond absurd to me. if and when i ever have kids, they are most definitely going to a state school, nay, community college unless there is some type of education reform.
my trip to topshop nyc was exactly what i expected
so i finally decided to drop into topshop in soho to see what the fuss was about. granted, i'd seen a few of the clothes on various blogs and websites. but this also gave me a sense of how expensive the clothes were gonna be, so i didn't expect it to be very recession friendly. and let me tell you something friends, it wasn't.
how much would you guess these suckers are? $20? $25? nope. $40. FORTY DOLLARS PEOPLE. this crap looks like something you'd see at the bargain bin of your local discount retailer. moving on.
this adorable peach floral number? adorable. and although $50 isn't thaaaaaaaat terrible, i feel like i could find this at a used clothing store for like, HALF.
then these sunglasses. super cute, right? what if i told you they were THIRTY dollars! yeah, i could buy the same pair at forever21 for like $5. lame-o.
what about this little eyelet number? adorbs, right? i think this one cost around $80 or $90 bucks. which makes me sad, cause it's JUST A COTTON EYELET DRESS. it's not made of cashmere or imported silk.
then comes this really pretty dress with a sheer layer over it and beautiful bead work. and this is from the "kate moss" collection there. so between the intricate beadwork and the name attached to it, it jacked the price up to like $200 dollars. NO THANKS.i should order these cards and hand them out to dates
then again, that would be assuming i'm going on a lot of dates.
east village has highest vacancy rate in NYC
"Manhattan’s East Village had the highest vacancy rates in March with 3.24 percent of its rental units available, Citi- Habitats said. Soho and TriBeCa, both in Lower Manhattan, had the lowest vacancy rate: 1.84 percent."
Labels: east village, new york city, real estatei ventured over to jacques torres on hudson street to buy some easter treats for my friend's parents since they are nice enough to have me over for the weekend.

yesterday, the biggest european fashion import since H&M hit NYC. i can't believe that years ago, there was actually this much excitement over the fact that H&M arrived in the U.S. and in fact, i'm sure we'll feel the same about topshop soon enough. but yes, topshop finally opened it's doors in NYC and it was a MADHOUSE.

sometimes when i'm on the phone with my dad, he asks "how much is gas in nyc right now?" and 9 times out of 10, i have no idea. mostly because i don't have a car (duh). but every once in a while i'll walk by one of the few gas stations that exists in manhattan.

i know it's hard to see, but regular gas is running $2.29/gallon. when i called my dad to tell him this he was like, "that's not bad. it's $1.89/gallon here." (sidenote: my dad lives in south texas) Labels: family, gas prices, new york city, photos
wanna know what someone does when they're unemployed? some people participate in the "unemployment olympics". others (like me) produce and edit a video of it for others to enjoy.

if you're unemployed in the city and have an unemployment check stub, you can drink at toby's public house for HALF OFF!
uh-oh. i advise you not to be in the LES/EV tonight.
A thousand rugby players invade New York for the Four Leaf Rugby Tournament on Saturday on Randall's Island. Fifty rugby teams from around the country will compete from 8AM to 7PM while spectators eat free food and drink free beer. A free "Try Rugby" clinic will be offered for kids under 14. After the last game, you can join the 1,000+-participant rugby pub crawl through the East Village and Lower East Side.
is it even possible for gray's papaya to lower their prices?
i took this photo on the UWS recently. i didn't think it was possible for them to make a hot dog and beverage combo any cheaper, but apparently their "recession special" takes another dollar off. that's gotta make it $3 bucks, tops.
and thus begins an irrational fear of bridges
on my way home tonight, my craving got the best of me and i stopped by butter lane and got a cupcake. how could i resist this sign?
