tonight i went to a screening of the upcoming jennifer aniston/vince vaughn movie the break up. apparently not to be confused with a kiefer sutherland movie called break up.
i think anyone who has ever experienced a break up (which i think it's safe to say that about 90% of adults have at least once in their life) should go see this movie. don't merely dismiss it as a "romantic comedy". i suppose it does fall in that genre, but it's a smart romantic comedy. if there wasn't such a thing before, i'm going on record by saying that this movie is that.
the movie isn't full of fluff or a cute soundtrack with songs by the shins or the strokes (but the band old 97s DOES sort of appear IN the movie). the score is what helps drive this movie in the raw and emotional scenes. the thing i liked about this movie is that it portrayed a break up the way that they usually happen. it starts out with a fight about something petty or ridiculous and it blows up into something much bigger. but by the end of the argument, you're talking about much bigger issues. it kinda hit close to home. although my friend/co-worker/neighbor K who went with me said the same thing. it's pretty obvious that anyone could relate to it whether they were the dumper or dumpee.
it's worth the ten bucks, or your matinee price, or use that student ID from 4 years ago and get the student discount. the movie is worth seeing in my book.
