last weekend i went to a wedding with a friend. when the moment came to call "all the single girls" onto the floor to catch the bouquet, everyone froze in their seats. finally, everyone slowly started to get up (probably only after their friends forced them to) and made their way to the center of the room. the lovely bride stood with her back to us while we all stood behind her. no one wanted to be in front, so we slowly started taking steps backward.

now it's tradition that the bride throw the bouquet...and allegedly the girl that catches it will be the next to get married.

so out of the 10 or so girls up there, i was the "lucky" girl to catch the bouquet. which meant that i had the pleasure of being embarassed in front of all the wedding guests because i had to go sit in a chair and let the guy who caught the garter belt put it on my leg. uncomfortable? yes. awkward? sure. but i sucked it up and introduced myself to the guy with a nice friendly handshake.

and as for the myth of the girl who catches the bouquet being the next girl to get married, well, i wouldn't be placing any bets soon. one step at a time. i sorta have to be dating someone to be heading in that direction.
