the first week of august, i'll be heading down to the rio grande valley in texas. it's the southern most part of texas, and most of my family lives about a 30 min drive from the mexican border. it'll be nice to visit my dad, brother, sister, stepmom, and other family. not to mention that the main reason i'm headed down there is to be the maid of honor in my cousin's wedding.
however, it cost me $511 to buy my ticket down there. i might have saved $50 at most if i had booked it sooner. but i've been monitoring and the savings isn't much (although after paying that much, i'd take any money back that i can get). oh, and did i mention that i paid an additional $200 to fly my dog round trip? not even for a seat. to have the privilege of putting him UNDER my seat. yeah...i have to pay that much EXTRA for that.
anyway, with the holiday weekend coming up and summer travel being so popular and all, it got me thinking...where else could i have flown for $511? according to farecast.com, here's a list:
- $305 NYC--> Cancun
- $319 NYC--> Los Angeles
- $194 NYC--> Miami
- $425 NYC--> Aruba
- $243 NYC--> San Juan
*editors note: at $590, i missed a trip to rome by $79.

Did the $511 include the $200 pet fee? If it did, then you really only have $311 to work with...but Cancun, LA and Miami are still good choices.
