so in case you haven't heard or read the news (here, here, and here), viacom is cutting 7% of jobs worldwide. viacom owns mtv networks. mtv networks is made up of mtv, vh1, etc, etc.

i will say two former colleagues of mine (that i know of) were let go, and many more of my friends say their depts have been hit hard (apparently mtv is taking the biggest hit). hit so hard in fact, that it's rumored that even long time vj and news contributor john norris has been laid off (unconfirmed).

now being a freelancer, i can't really be laid off because i work on projects with end dates. i basically get laid off every few weeks or months. in fact, i'm out of a job as of 12/19 (without severance!). but it totally sucks about the layoffs. my friend said one of her co-workers was just so SAD and crying.

here's hoping obama rescues the economy, indeed.
