new texas themed restaurant in east village

from eater:

While you can definitely count on Lone Star beers and Tito’s handmade vodka, the food has faced mixed reviews, many bordering on the negative. The mac and cheese earns critic approval, however, their signature drink, the Marfarita, faced comparison to a much less desired rhyming substance. Timing seems to be a big issue, but many diners are hopeful that their gripes were only temporary kinks from the recent opening...
meanwhile, yelp is making me question wanting to go there.

tom colicchio is a-ok in my book

last night i went to dinner at craftbar in nyc. it's more "casual dining" than colicchio's signature restaurant, craft. but judging from the food i had last night, i'd never be able to tell.

we had the mushroom bruschetta for an appetizer followed by our entrees (me: bucatini, manila clams, red mustard greens. him: skate wing, fingerling potatoes, sauce gribiche). and for dessert, we split a warm apple cake.

i can't honestly complain about one thing. the food was delicious. the service was fantastic. and the ambiance was pleasant. if there weren't so many restaurants to visit in nyc, i'd go back in a heartbeat. i highly recommend it.

happy mardi gras!

i wanted so badly to find a king cake to bring into the office today. i only thought it would be appropriate considering today is mardi gras. but alas, after visiting 3 bakeries and calling a 4th, my search was a massive FAIL.

today, my former colleague cory filled me in on one more place that i should look. but as much as i appreciate the tip, the day is nearly over. oh well, there's always next year.

and if you have no idea what king cake is, see the photo on the left (and yes, that is a plastic baby on top of it). normally the plastic baby is baked inside. whoever finds it is "king or queen for a day" and it is considered good luck.
