so tonight i, like the few millions around the country, watched the emmy awards on tv tonight. it would've been more enjoyable to watch it at my friend's apt in ny with other friends. i think at least then i would've been able to bitch with them about the night's winners. here is my open letter to the academy:
dear emmy peeps,
it started off very promising. the opening bit and monologue was hilarious. who would've guessed the people who got statues would've been disappointing. i mean, sandra oh and chandra wilson shut out??? megan mullally getting a pity trophy because her sitcom is off the air? "the amazing race" beating out project runway/dancing with the stars/american idol? seriously? is everyone in the academy sleeping with jerry bruckheimer? and okay, tony shaloub is funny on a cable tv show that a handful of people watch. we get it. he's good. he's gotten trophies before for it. but are you saying he was funnier than steve carell in "the office"? i would've even accepted it if charlie sheen won for "two and a half men". at least people watch that show (not that i'm one of them). and julia louis-dreyfuss? i would've thought any of the other four actresses nominated would've won since you guys love handing out awards to shows that are off the air. and lastly, i might be one of the only people that doesn't love "24". i hear it's a fantastic show, but this was the year for "grey's anatomy". i don't think they won a damn thing. you should be ashamed.
yours truly,
texan in the city
p.s. thanks for having conan host. at least he made the show watchable.
