so i'm in the suburbs of dallas right now visiting my family. it's only been about 2 months since my last visit, which i think is the quickest i've returned to texas. but i do have an agenda while i'm here: to take my puppy back with me to nyc. but as always, i'm trying to enjoy my stay while i'm here.
last night my cousin asked if i wanted to go to a party with her. since this is texas, i pictured the "party" at someone's house and byob and all that crap, which would've been totally fine with me. well, turns out this "party" was more of a get together with her co-workers at a karaoke bar in valley ranch. and since i was the designated driver (yeah, totally forget about those in nyc), i had to forget about getting drunk enough to enjoy the karaoke and get the courage to go up in sing. but after hearing one guy sing not one, but TWO creed songs, an older lady "raising the roof" while her husband was singing "staying alive", and way too many country songs, i decided to take the plunge. so i submitted my song and 30 minutes later, i took the stage....or the floor space with the mic. i dedicated my song to all the people who can't sing (like me) and all the designated drivers. i sang "fight for your right" by the beastie boys. i had a lot of fun and actually turned out to be a hit amongst the crowd.
my weekend amongst the george bush lovers and fox news watchers has been pretty pleasant. but then again, it's always nice to come home...even if it is conservative country.
